Beginner Mission Chains Empty
PostSubject: Beginner Mission Chains   Beginner Mission Chains EmptyTue Jul 24, 2018 5:22 pm

Here is some usual starting procedure for newcomers on Calypso.

Note: For convenience I inserted waypoints you can copy-paste into EU Chat, just copy the command within the "{}" brackets into your chat window, this should create a waypoint for you. If it doesn't work for some utterly strange reason, copy the given coordinates manually and set a waypoint manually on map as close as you can manage.

If you run out of ammo / cash you might want to check out the Sweating Guide.

Also have a look at the official tutorial, basically covers much of what I wrote below in a more fancy style (Only found out about it after I had written this already).

I have tried to put it into some order, feel free to start a discussion in the thread.

Get a mentor!

  • Not having a mentor will waste all your progress towards getting that set of Graduation Armor. There is no need to rush things in here, so be patient and talk to your candidates for some time first. Ask about online times, and why mentoring people, and how long already playing. A good mentor should have some skills and experience in game and not be just after the mentor gift or lose interest again in 2 weeks.

PLEASE ALREADY NOTE THAT THE BEST RATING YOU CAN GIVE TO YOUR MENTOR IS 5 STARS, NOT THE 3 THAT ARE DEFAULT! After all the effort your mentor (hopefully) put into you, please take the effort and give a fair rating!

Caveats

  • At some point in game, there will be a suggestion you should do the Jumpsuit Upgrade mission chain. It's your money of course, but I strongly suggest you leave that stuff alone, since it gives no reward other than a fancy version of the Orange Jumper (OJ). The only Jumpsuit worth getting in game is Karona's in my opinion.
  • At some point in game, there will be a suggestion to buy a starter pack. This is not worth it in my eyes, you will be able to get equal or better gear in game quickly and to get Uni-Ammo you can as well depo and buy ammo; the sight and scope are nice though, and the "Armor" has a speed boost when equipped.

1 Camp Icarus - stick to the given order with those

  • Talk to Sgt. Saana on the shore
  • Do the Gauntlet 1 / 2 (Important to get the S10 and that ammo before all from Thule is blasted away). Do your gauntlet every day, cheapest way to build up a stack of daily tokens. Save them for later, no use wasting them for a gun you will only use for 2 weeks since you skill up fast in the beginning.
  • Talk to Cpt. Hayes up in the Camp (CDF Scout Part 1/7)
  • Talk to fat old Bukin for his rifle mission (up the ramp), so you can profit from the markup on all the stuff you'll loot from punys

2 The Way To PA

  • Find the CDF Outpost {/wp [Calypso, 62770,75230,0,PA CDF Outpost]} )
  • Talk to Cpt Reeves and finish the Iron Will chain (CDF Scout Part 2/7). Cave entrance on the Investigate Robot Sightings part might be bugged and require a relog. If in team, then must be leader to enter (Solo Instance anyway).
  • Talk to Sgt Kean and finish the Iron Road mission

3 Port Atlantis

  • Find and talk to the Port Atlantis Official {/wp [Calypso, 61406, 75165, 0, Port Atlantis Official]} for another tutorial style mission chain. Should also get you to the Trail Guide at the end (If not, pick that up at {/wp [Calypso, 61400,75360,0, PA Trail Guide]} manually)
  • Find and talk to Ingrid J., Iron Puny Mission Broker, standing near the PA Official guy (like 10m away). Now you are ready to shoot puny mobs.
  • Get inside the mall, use televator to top floor, get the Mall TP by running over it or operating it (useful since vehicles can be spawned on Mall roof)
  • Get the regular PA TP
  • Talk to Karona not far from TP and accept the mission (see the guide)
  • Talk to the TP Technician standing next to it (gives free additional TPs)
  • Teleport to Half Moon Cove

4 Half Moon Cove

  • Talk to Foreman Sanders, complete the chain. If in team, must be leader to be able to enter the sabakuma cave (Solo Instance anyway).
  • Talk to Larchi when done with "Kill it with Fire". Accept all missions from the 2 NPCs you meet on the road. Getting the maffoid heads might be bugged if in team, so do it solo. Stick to the L2 ones, less HP to kill. Should be possible to get the heads with a few kills only, else try a relog.
  • Get the armor voucher from Cpt Spiers at Wastwatch Tower. A bit further down the road towards Corinth are another 2 NPCs, get their easy missions too.
  • Talk to Specialist Hastert in Corinth to get the 3rd CDF Scout piece and also the "Find CDF Outpost Alpha" chain (exploration, leads you to Camp Phoenix eventually where you can hunt snable-snots, low level mobs a bit bigger than punys), with a lot of other sidequests for you on the way. You might want to save your ammunition for the Fort Sisyphus missions though (below).

The following two missions can be done without firing a shot. Mission broker is the "Mission Terminal" in Fort Troy. Best to have Osere, East Scylla and Boreas TPs before you start so you can teleport to the various locations.
Do NOT pick up "Tune Genesis Star sensors" in the Mission Terminal since that involves talking to Mr Book and you need to avoid him like the plague for "For Discreet Applicants Only"; but you can accept "Help Wanted" and talk to Jessica in Boreas first if you want to do 5b along with 5a.

5a For Discreet Applicants Only
This is a mission you can do without firing a shot. There is absolutely no need to do it now, but if you do it right, the reward will boost your evade skill, thus making all the following missions involving combat a bit easier and less costly.

  • Go to Isle of Troy. Use the shortcut TP plate in the NE corner. Kill off the few foul that might lurk there. Should be no problem now to reach Fort Troy {/wp [Calypso, 80500, 68310, 0, Ft Troy]} )
  • Accept all hunting missions from the hunting terminal in Fort Troy so you don't waste kills anymore now or later. Mission rewards can mostly also picked up from the terminal, so most often no need to find some stupid broker hidden in nowhere. No need to do all the missions now or even later, but stupid to not have them counting in the background.
  • TP Run from Fort Troy -> Osere, then from Troy -> East Scylla via the volcano. Either ask soc or try to get there on your own, if you are the adventurous type.
  • When you have all 3 TPs, go to "Mission Terminal" in Fort Troy and accept "For Discreet Applicants Only" (and ONLY that to avoid confusion; the other missions will be in the same area!)
  • Whatever the mission says, never talk to Mr. Book in East Scylla until you have completed the whole mission chain. Stick to Mr. Lyndon all the time!
  • TP to Osere and talk to Mr. Lyndon, right outside the West Exit
  • Find the sensor (/wp [Calypso, 75673, 69806, 713, Sensor Delta]) and operate it, choose "Talk to Mr Lyndon"! Then return to East Scylla. Do not talk to Book when done! Instead, TP straight back to Osere and talk to Lyndon again. When he tells about the alarm, choose "A Trick?" and accept next job offer.
  • Go to East Scylla and start with finding all the sensors from there (closest TP). Can be done from an aircraft too, just fly close enough. Easiest to be pilot then, since other passengers might not have your waypoints.
  • Order of finding the sensors does not matter, but #7 should be done as the last one. Mark its location (/wp [Calypso, 75243, 68573, 171, Uplink Tower])since you need to come back there in next stage , without a waypoint to help.
  • Instead, try to reach Boreas since that's the closest TP from sensor #7. Return to Osere from there and talk to Lyndon again. Accept his mission "Tap into Genesis Star Communications".
  • When done, go to the Comm Tower from Boreas, tap it, then back to Boreas again and from there to Osere a final time. Talk to Lyndon for your reward.

Enjoy the boost in your evade skill.

5b The Ashes of Karen Wong
This is a mission you can do without firing a shot. The reward will boost your first aid skill, thus making healing a bit more efficient.
[*]Accept "Help Wanted" from the mission terminal in Fort Troy.
[*]Find Jessica Hammersmark in Boreas, accept her mission ("A grave errand")
[*]Go to Cyclops Volcano caldera, spread the Ashes at the pillar. {/wp [Calypso, 76155, 70425, 0, A grave errand]}
[*]Return to Jessica to get the reward

Now you can get the missing armor parts and also do a stage of Karona Chapter 1 now and then.

6 Fort Sisyphus

  • The CDF Scout in Orthos West Mound will tp you over to Fort Sisyphus if you talk to him.
  • Talk to Captain Atreida in Fort Sisyphus, accept and finish all 4 stages of "Holding Fort Sisyphus" for the missing 4 pieces of your CDF Scout armor set. If it turns out to be too hard, do #7 first. Maybe your mentor is nice enough to help you with this, if it is too demanding.

7 Grind Iron Puny Challenge

  • Grind up until you have done at least the 1000 Puny Mob Hunting Challenge.  Better do it until 5000, you need to skill up anyway.

8 Spiff up the spare rifle

  • By now your skills should be good enough that you can use the Adjusted Bukins Rifle (Learning Period starting at level 2.x, if your Hit Ability in Item Info is still below 7.0/10.0, return to grinding punys). To upgrade the rifle, go to Sisyphus again, Atreida should give you the mission to enhance Bukin's Spare Rifle. Engineer Paula is in Half Moon Cove.

9 Fort Lahar (OPTIONAL)

  • Accept the "Cleanup at Fort Lahar" mission from the NPC there. When you have done that, you will have a set of Robot Alloy Armor Plates(L), that, when used on your Scout Armor, should be good enough for some Kerb grinding or other fun. Keep in mind that the plates are (L), so do not waste them on puny mobs. They are account bound too, so you might consider doing this quest. You can also use them on any other armor, e.g. your graduation armor later.
Note:If Lahar Robot Incursion is active, you have to wait for it to be finished, since mobs outside the wave bubble sadly do not count. TP out then for more Punies.

10 Karona

  • Have you completed Karona's Mission yet? If not, keep trying (if you want the jumpsuit).

Finish Your Discipleship

  • Continue grinding puny mobs, or low-level stuff like Snablesnots, Berycled, Exarosaur, Merps, Kerberos, Combibo. Keep in mind that not all critters have Iron Missions so some might not give a reward after x kills.
  • Get to Twin Peaks (soc tp run etc) and pick up Iron Shinkiba mission if you don't have it already. {/wp [Calypso, 77744, 76691, 0, Leo Phoenix,Shinkibas]}. Shinkiba Young is an easy mob you can find W of Twin Peaks at the northern shore of the lake in the light brownish area on map; they are all over the hills and shore there.
  • Do Karona if you haven't already. Keep in mind the matrix stage requires several tries which each need like 15 ped ammo to be sure you make it through. If you deem the reward not worth it,  then stop after at riddle #3.
  • Do your Gauntlet on a daily basis !!
  • Take a trip to Cyrene and get the Maze Hammer for an extra 10% speed buff if you feel like it. Remember to empty your resources/materials inventory before entering space.

If you feel adventurous or bored, there are 2 mission chains you can do which eventually give you access to 2 caves with special creatures (too big for you yet though):
- Find the missing scientist, broker Mehdi Daniels in Cape Corinth {/wp [Calypso, 61756, 88029, 0, Mehdi Daniels Neomex]}. Gives access to the Neomex Cave.
- Vault hunter, broker Mr. Shapiro in Fort Troy {/wp [Calypso, 80592, 68341, 0, Vault Hunter Chain]}. Once done with "Road to Camp Carter", accept "Vault Hunter" from Brendan Smith. Marcimex Iron Mission broker is in the cave, but you have to shoot your way past really tough mobs, or run, so probably not possible for you yet.

Finishing Discipleship will get you a brick of 4x4 car with fancy colours and a decent low-level armor set, way better than the wet towels you used so far.

Finishing Discipleship on other planets gets you a different reward, see here.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THE MAXIMUM RATING FOR YOUR MENTOR IS 5 STARS, NOT THE 3 THAT ARE SET BY DEFAULT.

And a huge gratz already if you made it to graduation! Welcome to EU Very Happy
